FrostBoss™
New Zealand New Zealand Frost Fans frost protection fins have been used in Australia and America for over 20 years. Thanks to proven technology and good results, they are entering as frost protection system in Europe as well. The main models presented on the European market are Frost Boss C49 with four blades and Frost Boss C59 with five blades. Depending on the terrain, they can protect an area of about 60 to 80 acres.
The 4-blade blade C49 significantly improved the image of the frost fans because of the highest efficiency blade on the market. The C49 has unique coverage, lower fuel consumption, quieter operation and longer blade life. The C49 blades set can be fitted to most other brand blades to improve their performance. The C59 composite 5blade fan operates at lower rpm, whilst covering the same area as the C49 with even lower noise levels.
The New Zealand company produces C24 with 2 blades and 3-blade C39 frost fan to meet different market requirements.

FEATURES & BENEFITS
The C59 composite 5blade fan operates at lower rpm, whilst covering the same area az the C49 with even lower noise levels.
-
Galvanised 10,38м tower
-
Amarillo gearboxes
-
10 inch centrufugial clutch with torsional coupling
-
fully installed on site and commissioned
- Perkins 1106D-70TA
- John Deere 6068T
- Integral 500 litre lockable fuel tank – sits under the engine with capacity for approximately 24 hours running time. There is a fuel level sensor, which prevents the engine from running the fuel tank dry. Hence the fuel system will never need to be bled if the fuel supply runs out
- Aluminium engine enclosure – the fully lockable, powder-coated aluminium enclosures are resistant to corrosion and orchard sprays. Being fully enclosed, they restrict rodents and birds
- The new FrostBoss® controller is the most up to date, reliable and robust start module available in manual or auto start.
- Remote Monitoring Option
Fan status, low fuel, battery voltage, inversion & canopy temperatures, wind speed, full run history and other readings as required - Manual
Simple controls & display
Key start
Engine shutdown protection - Auto Start
Wireless temperature sensoring
Auto start/stop to operator preset temperatures

Efficiency: The 4-blade Frost Boss C49 blade provides the highest coverage with the lowest fuel consumption of any frost blade on the market. In Bulgaria, the most affected by the late spring frosts are the stone fruit plantations. Cherries and plums for fresh consumption are the most common.
In a continental climate, such as Australia, with high temperature inversions and low catabatic wind speeds, the C49 can achieve coverage of approximately 10ha. The same fan in an island climate, such as New Zealand, in a cold valley with a strong catabatic drift and a low temperature inversion will achieve coverage of approximately 6 – 7 ha.
The C49’s noise is smooth and low, without the distinctive whistling sound of the 2-blade fаns. 4-blade fan, thanks to its bigger blade area, allows a higher pitch of the blade to be used. This allows the fan to operate at a lower speed, thus making less noise and at the same time doing the same job.
The blades turn most of your fuel into useful wind, not into turbulence and noise. The experience of their use shows that 4-blade fans have greater
penetration capability than the 2-blade fans, thus giving them
more coverage.
What makes С49 frost fans so special?
The C49 fan blade is twisted from the tip to the root in a progressive manner, whereas all other frost fans are twisted linearly. The progressive pitch of the blade gives it a distinctive 3 dimensional shape, especially towards the blade root. This combined with the progressive increase increase in blade width, and the rounded blade tips, gives improved performance and an aesthetically pleasing blade shape.
Is thrust important in measuring fan efficiency?
Thrust is used for measuring the performance of an airplane propeller and is not a good indicator of the ability of fan blades. The parameter that best measures the performance of frost blades is the wind impulse and in particular the uniformity of thewind impulse. The wind ejection is best achieved with a design in which the propeller angle is gradually inclined from the top to the base. In this way, the air flows evenly across the diameter of the
blade and creates a uniform stream of wind. The C49 blade has a progressive tilt of more than 20 degrees. On the other side some fans with 2 blades have only 5 degrees of deviation between the top and the base of the blade. This is too far from the required blade pitch (called torsion) to reach a uniform
wind speed.
In the end, the tips of the propellers create the entire wind speed. It mixes with the slower air in the middle of the fan flow. This reduced the inertia of the wind stream before even getting a chance to go out to the orchard or vineyard. The thrust is a useful indication of how much power the engine puts into the blade, but doesn’t give information about the uniformity, capacity and quality of the wind flow.
Why C49 fans rotates easily in natural wind, when they are not running?
The C49 blades rotate very easily in almost any wind direction. This blade rotation of the wind avoids the shock load. In large areas with strong winds 2- and 4-blade fans can be subjected to considerable loads in the event of variable wind gusts. Тhis causes problems with the propeller mounting mechanism.
